Help

Set forth below are some hints for how to use the Bankguys site effectively. We hope that you will follow our links, explore the site, and familiarize yourself with how it is organized.

Navigation

  • The home page for Bankguys is a blog of all robberies posted to the site. Each “post” is written in the format of a robbery bulletin.  Clicking on the “Blog” tab at the top of any page will return you to the home page.
  • Clicking on the title of any robbery will open that post as a stand-alone page.  The unique web address for that robbery bulletin will appear in your browser’s address bar, and you can then copy the link or set a bookmark for that robbery.  A shortcut for that is simply to right-click on the title of the robbery and then select your browser’s option for copying the link location.
  • Clicking on the Print Bulletin link at the bottom of a post will bring up the robbery bulletin in Adobe PDF format which is suitable for downloading and printing.
  • Besides being shown in the bulletins on the blog page, our robbery photos are contained in albums for easy viewing.  Clicking on a thumbnail view will bring up the full-size photo, which is also linked back to the bulletin for that robbery.  The albums can also be viewed as a slide show.  Click here to check out our albums or access them through the Albums page of the site.

Search

  • You can use the search box at the top of the sidebar to do a text search for a word or phrase, and the results page will list the titles of all posts in which those words appear. To view the entire bulletin, just click on the title. For example, try searching for the phrase “Halloween mask”. It will take you immediately to a 1999 bank holdup in New Castle, PA. Click on the title to view the entire bulletin.
  • You can search the Archives in the sidebar. This will bring up all the robbery bulletins for the month and year that you select.
  • You can search by Category in the sidebar. The category can be a geographic area (Pittsburgh Metro, Western PA, or West Virginia), or it can be a type of m.o..  Each post is filed under multiple m.o. categories, which you can find listed under the title as “Filed under“. For instance, you could search for all robberies in which a note was used, all in which a weapon was shown, all in which the robber did a bank takeover, etc.

Date Stamps

  • In most blogs, the date stamp found under the title of a post indicates when the item was posted to the site. With Bankguys, however, the date stamps have been arbitrarily set to match the actual dates of the bank robberies. This insures that the robberies will appear in chronological order by date of occurrence rather than by date of posting.

Comments

  • Most blogs have a feature for posting readers’ comments.  This feature has been disabled in Bankguys.
